That\’s the point, "dumb fun" doesn\’t describe any previous iteration of Star Trek. He dumbed it down to the point where it was unrecognizable. He is one of the worst producers/directors out there. All of his work is complete shit. Alias? Lost? Fringe? Holy sh*t, how dumb could a person be?

abrams makes serviceable fun movies. i don\’t understand the hate against him. didn\’t he leave Lost before it went to shit? his Star Trek films were dumb fun. i\’d love to see George Miller direct a Star Wars film, though. maybe an anthology one that\’s pure action and adrenaline.

I like J.J. Abrams. I know that\’s not cool to say…but I do. The first season of Lost was addictive. The 1st half of Super 8 was near perfect (not the 2nd half though). Both new star trek films looked like someone who really loved Star Wars getting to make a Star Trek film. The new trailers are intriguing. George Lucas isn\’t there so he can\’t digitally retouch the actors\’ mouth to change the dialogue in post (!). I\’ll be there opening day. Rooting for him, the cast and the entire crew the whole way.

The most worrisome bit is the part where each new director "starts from scratch" and just extrapolates out from the previous chapter. No bible. No singular vision. Just a string of high priced guns for hire winging it. Sounds like a disaster in the making.

And frankly, I never gave much thought to Luke\’s lost lightsaber so I can\’t say that it makes a particularly compelling hook. All in all, I sense a disturbance in the Force.

George Lucas was innovative in the 80\’s. Hell, he created the franchise of the franshises. Then he made the first three episodes… what a disaster. Not even "dumb fun"! I\’ll take "dumb fun" anytime. At this point anyone will make a better Star Wars movie. I\’m positive JJ will make a hell of a great movie.

Except the lightsaber Luke lost in Empire Strikes back was lost! Luke constructed a new lightsaber that he used in ROTJ. Deleted scenes from ROTJ show him making the new one.

This movie is so lost and the media coverage is killing what might be salvageable.

I know Star Wars is a space opera and not real science fiction, but this simply flies in the face of any and all accepted physics. Apparently, material things don\’t burn up in even the thinest atmosphere in the Star Wars universe. "Luke\’s lightsaber-clutching hand floating through space and landing on a desert planet"
