Say what you will about 3 & 4, they\’re canon, and there\’s no reason to fracture the Alien universe and pretend they don\’t exist. I don\’t see why he couldn\’t make a spiritual successor to Aliens that also respected the timeline set up in the first 4 films.

I\’m never a fan of a director saying "I\’m going to make a sequel to only this one film I liked."

Excuse me? What about Prometheus? Has Blomkamp abandoned district 9 already? Since when does he have anything to do with the Alien series, except for the release of his unofficial concept art which was admittedly never going to happen?

I recall Weaver talking about giving Ripley a "proper" goodbye with both Alien 3 where she strongly supported the idea of killing the character off, then again with Alien 4 where she liked the rose colored ending where the character returns home to earth. Maybe listening to her advice is not the best way to go.

…I agree with Shogunofharlem. It\’s the same as if someone would do sequel to Star Wars, because he didn\’t like episodes 5 and 6. Besides, A3 and A:R were based on very strong elements storywise… Careful with that axe, Neil!

If he\’s serious about excising 3 & 4 from his take on the franchise, then presumably Hicks and Newt are still alive. Perhaps as Ripley\’s story ends, a now grown Newt takes center stage. That would be intriguing.
