They’re thought was that the fans were already going to see the movie so we did’t have to appeal to them. It was the non-Trek fans that they wanted to appeal to. They did of course end up appealing to both fans and non-fans as I believe all shows and movies based on a show or a comic book are trying to do. This idea that a studio would invest millions of dollars just to make something for people who are already going to watch it is both ridiculous and kind of insulting. It’s also insulting to think that critics are going into something not wanting to like it. That is just a flat out lie.

This is being made from a source material and they’re trying to be ‘somewhat’ loyal to it rather than reinventing it (which usually pisses off more fans than it appeases the casual fans) so complaining about skin colour or background story is inane. Those aspects were set over 30 years ago…
