In reply to cirkusfolk. People who like Ryan Reynolds and enjoy dark or bathroom humor will go see Deadpool. It appeals to more than just comic book fans. Lots of people go for the antihero. And for those who go to see movies multiple times in the theater, like myself, Deadpool will be a bigger draw than a movie I've already seen, so Infinity War stands to lose a bit of repeat traffic.

The writer is not wrong, first weekend of Infinity War shot Black Panther back to no. 5….after 3 months in theaters and after it being digitally released…The domestic BO is extremely strong but, the main thing, Black Panther works as a stand alone film and that will always bring more newcomers. Avengers 3, and the number in the title is important, is half the movie without the context (which is what makes it so great imho but that’s for another conversation).

Seriously? Then you’re not doing the math. There’s a distinct possibility here. Panther is almost at $700M. I’ve laid out some reasoning here. He’s not poking the bear to poke a bear.

Black Panther isnt’ “the biggest domestic total for a Marvel Studios film”, cause The Avengers gain more than 704 millions (adjusted with inflation). Infinity War will run in theatres until the end of summer and will gain at least 800 millions.

I don’t think Deadpool will take much away from Avengers. People who will flock to Deadpool will have already seen Avengers, and families or people that don’t catch Avengers in the first 3 weeks of release, won’t be the type of people that go to Deadpool.

Even conservative math/analysis has “Infinity War” knocking at $600 million before “Deadpool 2” opens. Seems likely it could easily match or surpass “Black Panther” by mid- to late June, but definitely by the end of its theatrical run.
