Actually, Goldman really did write it. Morganstern was just a literary device that he used as part of the story. I fell for it the first time I read the book, and looked for the original unabridged edition to read, only to find out that Goldman was the only and original author.

This article is EXTREMELY misleading. The author clearly did not research the subject before writing on it. The Princess Bride was originally a novel by a Florinese man named S. Morgenstern. The version is around 1000 pages long and includes tedious descriptions of Florinese customs. It is heralded by Florinese scholars as a great work of satire. Goldman abridged it, keeping to the storyline and then also adapted it to film. The sequel, Buttercup's Baby, already exists. It, too, was written by S. Morgenstern. Goldman would love to abridge this version, but is being held up by legalties. The Morgenstern estate sent 11 lawsuits his way for his work on The Princess Bride. Eventually these were all dropped, but the Morgenstern representative was in talks with Stephen King to do the abridgment. Obviously Goldman wants to do it, but King, who has Florinese heritage felt that Goldman left out some important parts in his abridgement and believes he can do a better job. The sequel is being held up by legal concerns, not a lack of creativity of ability on Goldman's behalf.

I'm not sure who that is in the little picture bubble but it's not William Goldman. At least not the William Goldman the article is about.
Interesting article all the same. I hope he figures out how to write it because I'll be first in line.
