Along with Carlos Reygadas, Fernando Eimbcke has established himself among the most important filmmakers working in Latin America. He won best director at the Berlin Film Festival last year. When it was shown over at the AFI Film Festival, I was very eager to see it since his previous effort (Duck Season) is marvelous. With Lake Tahoe he surpassed my already high expectations. Working with his long time collaborator, cinematographer Alexis Zabe (who also lensed Silent Light) he captures the beauty and intimacy of Southern Mexico. It's a movie people should go out and see. An absolute jewel.
