My suspicion is that 2015 will be an anomaly for Universal and they will go back to being #5 or #6 next year. They just don\’t have the deep bench to compete.

UNIPIC is now doing great,but if the film studio want to do much better to beat other studios,then they should look after carefully the development of franchises like pacific rim, warcraft, fast & furious,universal horror franchise.Also,the studio can also make films of epic fantasy malazan series & starcraft live action film with blizard (which sure will be game changers in film industries).

I agree with RONALD NICHOLLS and MOVIEGOER. Universal\’s success was based on known brands and nostalgia. As history has shown that makes money at the box office.

Although non were based on superhero comic books, many of the films on Universal\’s slate were based on known brands. Jurassic Park, Minions and Fast & Furious are well known franchises. As Pitch Perfect and Straight Outta Compton, as stated in the article, had nostalgia on their side.

Yeah agree with @RONALDNICHOLLS, the problem isn\’t actually the comic book genre but the risk averse culture, so Straight out of Compton rather than generate real diversity will likely just result in a saturation of hip hop biopics. For what it\’s worth I feel movies should embrace the peril that\’s inherent in the industry anyway, and then overhaul the tired marketing departments who can\’t seem to market anything that doesn\’t fit the same old.

Good points made, but at the same time almost all their big draws this summer where the 2nd, 7th, and 4th, film in a franchise.
