Got a Tip?

‘Horrible Bosses’ Director Seth Gordon Attached To Disney’s RomCom ‘Ground Control To Major Tom’

nullSeth Gordon, we like you. We ranked "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" very high on our Best Documentaries of the Decade list (the aughts) and it still holds up. While you didn't end up directing "Celeste And Jesse Forever" and you still have yet to make "The Only Living Boy in New York" and "Identity Thief" (your next movie, which starts shooting next week), they all sound like interesting projects, which suggests you have good taste. Strengthening that posit is your TV work. You've directed good episodes of sitcoms we enjoy like "Parks and Recreation," "Community" and “The Office,” and assume you could knock a “30 Rock” ep out of the park given half the chance.

However, there are two creative endeavors we weren't over the moon about: “Four Christmases” and “Horrible Bosses” with the former being much more egregious than the later, and we hear that's because of the bickering stars. Which leads us to “Ground Control To Major Tom,” a new romantic comedy spec script written by “Butter” scribe Jason Micallef (who’s also writing a cop comedy for Jason Segel) which Disney just acquired for six figures.

It's unclear how the David Bowie song "Space Oddity" (from which the film borrows its title) will be connected to the rom-com, because the logline of the film is being kept under wraps for now. But Gordon, who is now attached to direct, is a comedy filmmaker when he's not a documentarian, so we assume the picture will not be about a junkie astronaut who casually slips the bonds of the world to journey beyond the stars. But we have been known to be wrong occasionally. Make us proud, Seth. [Deadline]
