Okay, get a clue. The studios are steeped in corporate culture which mandates minimal risk-to-reward ratios on all projects. Sequels, prequels and reboots will ALWAYS be the GO TO for them because the typical lazy and greedy perception of the asinine Wall Street worshiping suits that run the studios is that it is much easier to sell a well known property than an unknown one.

It's not even straight up remakes. Even the "original stories" are so much like other films from the past. It's just because Hollywood isn't willing to break it's own mold that, let's face it, we as an audience help keep encouraging. Some of the best movies are by nobodies are independent directors who haven't been nominated for an Oscar in their life! LOL But what's missing is that personal touch no doubt. Most films use to have directors who were first and foremost nobodies with life experience and they used that experience to make their films. Now it's guys who try to emulate other directors.

You hit the nail on the head when you say these movies are made without passion. What genuinely talented filmmakers would want to remake most of theses films? So they're soulless commercial beasts, cynically made and satisfying no one.

Seems a little weird to point out Funny Games as it was a nearly shot for shot remake by the original director just with a slightly higher budget and less amateur cast. That movie was in super limited release, had no advertising budget and is just about one of the most difficult movies you'll come by.
