Paterno acted exactly how he was supposed to act. So did the administrators. This whole thing is a farce as far as PSU is concerned. The trustees and Corbett created this whole mess to divert attention away from Sandusky\'s charity. Louis Freeh should be in prison.

No, Paterno told the athletic director, who told the Senior Vice President of Finance (that guy financially oversees the campus police). If you really think that means Paterno told the police, then I don\'t know what to say. Paterno clearly didn\'t do enough. There are emails that indicate he knew about the child abuse accusations in 1998. Again, why is Sandusky suddenly retiring at the peak of his career after the 1998 season? Then Paterno gets an eyewitness account in 2001. Sure, he reported it to the athletic director, but then what? Did he ever think to follow up on this? He saw Sandusky many times in the years that followed with more boys. Still nothing. Paterno didn\'t do enough. It\'s pretty plain to see.

JOE DID report it to the police one of the school officials was in charge of the Penn State Police Department...essentially the "Chief". And before you imaging Penn State police being one step up from a group of "rent-a-cops" they are one of the largest if not the largest police forces in the area with with all of the resources (and then some) of a traditional police department.

Paterno didn\'t report anything to the police. He told a couple of school officials, who also didn\'t tell the police. Paterno didn\'t commit any crimes, but he was extremely negligent in this horrible situation that ruined many children\'s lives. Sandusky was Paterno\'s #2 man who suddenly retired after the first time he was caught showering with a boy (in 1998). Sandusky was at the peak of his career at that point. Why would he suddenly leave his profession? It seems fairly obvious that Paterno asked him to quit but didn\'t report any of his wrongdoings. Then Sandusky was caught AGAIN in the showers of the athletic facilities (in 2001). This time they told Sandusky that he wasn\'t allowed to bring boys around campus anymore. Yet still, Sandusky was seen at Penn State practices in the years that followed with different boys. Paterno would see this and not do a thing about it. It\'s disgusting. Stop defending Paterno. He did a lot of great things in his life, but this was not one of them. He horribly mismanaged this situation and allowed a pedophile to continue to assault children for over a decade.

Does no one edit or fact check anymore?
1. Former defensive coordinator, retired in 1999
2. No "assaults" were brought to Paterno\'s attention.
3. Reported and testified to any incidents he knew about.
4. Was accused by Louis Freeh, who was paid by the folks who fired Paterno but the Deputy Attorney General in charge of the investigation cleared Paterno, in a 60 Minutes interview.

If the script is as off base as this report it\'s gonna need a tear down, not just "some tinkering"
