I have a feeling Ford's condition on returning was that he had a lot of input on how exactly Han Solo is portrayed and used in the script. From what I've read, he wasn't impressed with the ROTJ script and that left a sour taste for him about how Han Solo "went out." Now with Episode 7, there's the chance for him to make one final lasting impression of that character the way that he wants to do it.

As legendary as Harrison Ford is now, without Star Wars, odds are pretty good that today he'd be a retired carpenter living in the Valley.

He should just sign on and show a little gratitude to the franchise that made his career possible. Plus, I'm pretty sure that this time he'll get that big Han Solo death scene he always wanted in ROTJ, so they don't have to play this game with him yet again on Ep 8.
