Gwyneth Paltrow Drops Out Of Lasse Hallström’s ‘The Danish Girl’

Gwyneth Paltrow has dropped out of Lasse Hallström’s sex-change-drama “The Danish Girl” which was set to see her star alongside Nicole Kidman.

The actress discussed her decision to withdraw with Harper’s Bazaar citing that with “the shoot changing locales, [she] found it too taxing for her little ones.” Hallström’s film is in the unfortunate position of following Paltrow’s latest turn in the country-music-flick “Love Don’t Let Me Down” along side Tim McGraw, Leighton Meester and Garrett Hedlund which saw an evidently un-child-friendly Nashville shoot.

Based on a David Ebershoff novel, “The Danish Girl” centers on the 1930’s-set story of the first ever sex-change patient, Einar Wegener, a male Danish artist whose love affair with his wife — fellow Danish artist Gerda Wegener — and art, set him on the path to the groundbreaking male-to-female operation.

Paltrow isn’t the first actress to drop out of her role of Gerda in the production either. Charlize Theron had been attached to star when Tomas Alfredsson was in line to helm the picture, but they’ve both moved on. Shooting had been slated to begin this May in Budapest, Prague and Denmark, though with the cast and locale change, it’s not known where and when the production will come through.
