Got a Tip?

Guillermo Del Toro Says He’s Making A Small, Independent Movie Next; ‘Pacific Rim 2’ Still In Development

null"Crimson Peak" is coming! Guillermo del Toro‘s new film screened over the weekend at Fantastic Fest, but rather remarkably, the embargo on full reviews has held. But tweets and assorted chatter among those in attendance has been quite positive, and surely it’s only a matter of time until the levee holding back the full register of reactions breaks. Until then, we’ll just have to focus on what del Toro has coming up next — evidently, he’s going indie.

A lengthy profile in Variety says the director has revealed that he’ll next get behind the camera for "a small, independently financed movie that he is keeping under tight wraps." That likely rules out any chance of "Hellboy 3" (Ron Perlman clearly wants it to happen) and Disney‘s "Haunted Mansion," but it’s probably a good bet it’s that black-and-white film slated to star John Hurt, he’s previously talked about.

As for "Pacific Rim 2," which has been put on hold, del Toro is still treating it as something that will eventually happen. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s not cancelled, just postponed,” the director said. “Right now, we have to put a budget and screenplay together, present it to Universal and Legendary, and they will make a decision.”

“The movie continues to be in development, and we’re still working on it with him,” added Legendary exec Jon Jashni. So keep the faith….

"Crimson Peak" opens on October 16th.
