Got a Tip?

Good News Everyone, ‘G.I. Joe 3’ Is Happening And Jon M. Chu Will Return To Direct

nullWhy? Because there are brands to maintain, franchises to continue and toys to sell. Because “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” is the 8th highest grossing film domestically so far in 2013, and earned nearly double that overseas for a worldwide tally of $365 million and change. Because, Dwayne Johnson. You may not be too thrilled, but Paramount has plenty of reasons to want to continue the “G.I. Joe” series.

And indeed they are, with the studio re-upping Jon M. Chu to direct the as yet not subtitled “G.I. Joe 3.” This isn’t exactly shocking news giving that after its big opening weekend ($40 million bucks) news that a sequel was heading into development hit. But with Chu lined up, the studio is now nailing down a writer, getting financing secured and probably seeing what Dwayne Johnson’s schedule is looking like. It’s a nice bounce back considering ‘Retaliation’ was delayed, tweaked, converted into 3D and then released, but audiences didn’t seem to mind or care.

So get ready to yell “Yo Joe!” once more and we’d guess probably a fourth time too given the way this is going. [Deadline]
