I wonder why no mention of Jim Sturgess? He is one of best young actors working today.But it's OK..I have no idea what this show is like.

(Sorry,it's bit O/T…and it's just my opinion,but I don't think Spider-Man will make Garfield megastar.I wonder why people think superhero role is a star-making role.I think it's more like it will ruin his career,unfortunately.See Tobey Maguire.Despite Spiderman films made tons of,tons of moneyãhe was like from promising young actor to someone who just goneï¼well,he isn't gone though).Because people only care characters and SFX in Spiderman films.It's too bad.They are talented actors.)

How about casting an actress instead? We already know from one of the recent episodes ("The Doctor's Wife") that Time Lords can change genders when they regenerate. I can't think of a better stage for introducing the first female Doctor than a feature film.

Here are a couple of my suggestions:
1. Ruth Negga (Misfits, Shirley)
2. Kelly Macdonald (Broadway Empire, No Country for Old Men)
3. Saffron Burrows (The Bank Job, L&O: Criminal Intent)
4. Ruth Wilson (Luther, Jane Eyre)
5. Hayley Atwell (Captain America, Brideshead Revisited)

Why does everyone insist on the completely inaccurate comparison of Superman Returns and Smallville? They were based upon a comic book, not each other (and Superman Returns was a sequel to Superman II, and as such was based upon a preexisting continuity). Smallville was never an adaptation of the Superman comic book or movies – it was a reimagining. Stop comparing the two. A better comparison is Terminator Salvation and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and both died at the same time. As far as casting goes, don't cast a known actor in the part – cast an unknown, which is why Tom Baker, David Tennant and Matt Smith became so popular. If they're going to go ahead with this insanity, then let a new Sean Connery establish himself as Bond, so to speak, rather than, say, bringing in Sherlock Holmes or that guy from Twilight (who will probably be cast because of his Harry Potter connection).

Colin Firth would be a very interesting choice. I'm up for Hardy, Garfield, Cumberbatch,Nighy,Oldman,Sheen,Depp,Downey Jr,Elba,Fassbender OR Murphy being the doctor. Could throw others in there later.

Benedict Cumberbatch was born to play the Doctor. I think its insulting to say his Sherlock is an audition piece for the Doctor. Also why assume they are similar types of characters. Cumberbatch is a brilliant actor and always brings fresh and original interpretations to the roles he plays. You make acting sound like a sausage factory.

Tom Hardy or Chiwetel Ejiofor would be outstanding choices, however I'd love to see Ejiofor land it since there has never been a black doctor and all the movie incarnations of Doctor Who tend to divert dramatically from the TV show anyway – an alternate universe as it were, so why not?

Benedict Cumberbatch is the perfect choice. Even if he does become Doctor Strange (which again he's perfect for) I dont see why he also cant be the Doctor. Other actors particularly in the US handle more than one franchise. Hell look at greedy guts Robert Downey Jr. he's got 2 franchises and trying to arrange a third.

Cumberbatch has a growing fanbase, is a tremendous actor – very versatile and even has a family connection to the series- both parents appeared in the TV version. I think its a BBC tv version he was cool towards because the BBC make you live and breathe the role 24/7. Pr lasts all year on it. The actor shave little time for anything else.

Cumberbatch for the film Doctor (the ONLY actor I want in the film role) and Michael Sheen as the Master. I like the Hogg suggestion for the TV doctor.
