This week has seen “Breaking Bad” fans leading a scattered, troubled existence, after last Sunday’s episode “Ozymandias” blew us away in its unflinching, Rian Johnson-helmed march toward the series’ finale. In one hour of television, Walt (Bryan Cranston) and his personal desires turned a corner for the even worse, and while the show’s producer now claims that the final two episodes will cram in a little more content, another one of television’s cruelest creators has weighed in with his own comments.
In a blog entry focused mostly on the Emmy chances for “Game of Thrones,” author George R.R. Martin touched briefly on his show’s main contender—“Breaking Bad”—and gave his personal regards. Calling both the series and “Ozymandias” “amazing” and “a gut punch,” Martin also singled out Walter White as “a bigger monster than anyone in Westeros” before claiming, “I need to do something about that.” Well, if nothing else, “Breaking Bad,” you can say you inspired Martin to reach new depths of brutality in his show.
However, creator Vince Gilligan still has two more episodes with which to unfurl his own intense vision, and from a recent tweet (via THR) by co-exec producer and writer Peter Gould, they will feature a good chunk more in their running times. “I checked & it’s official. Last 2 #BreakingBad eps are 75 minutes each w/commercials,” he wrote. “Set your DVRS accordingly. Better still, watch live!” Recent episodes have slowly broken the hour-long boundary, but Glenn’s tweet appears to indeed be accurate, with TV Guide also listing the new episodes at 75 minutes.
Finally, as if the series finale couldn’t draw any more buzz, AMC has revealed (via Variety) a new poster for the event featuring perhaps the show’s most iconic image: the RV in which Walt and Jesse (Aaron Paul) first got their partnership cooking. “It was all in the chemistry. Thanks to everyone who made bad so good,” it reads, and you can check the full image out below before “Breaking Bad” takes its final bow on Sept. 29th.
