It doesn\’t matter if the script said that Han shot first, because if Lucas decided to change it to suit the concept he had in mind, then as the creator of the story he can do that. Original scripts are not a be all and end all guide

Isn\’t one of the major parts of Han\’s story arc that he goes from someone who will do anything to save his own skin to a man of integrity and is willing to fight (and potentially die) for something beyond himself because of that?
Lucas minimizes this by trying to say that Han was always a hero by not shooting first.

Plus yeah, even in TESB you can tell Lucas was still figuring out the romantic dynamics between Luke, Han, and Leia.

So if what he says is correct than that means he had Han and Leia getting married in mind during the writing of A New Hope? I have a hard time believing that.
