The most underrated performance of the year has to be Frank Grillo in The Grey. I don't know if I've seen him in anything else but I will definitely remember him going forward.

Love your inclusion of Ezra Miller here, as we have been pushing him (and the film in general) since its release. But he's played upbeat before – he completely steamrolls over old pros Andy Garcia, Julianna Margoulis, and Steven Strait in the Tribeca-winning "City Island" in 2010. He improvised much of his dinner table dialogue for this unfairly little seen gem and steals every scene he has. We knew then he was going to be a huge success…glad its happening sooner rather than later for him.

I love some of the comment choices: Jude Law, Guy Pearce, and Frank Grillo. I would also add Samuel L. Jackson ( Django Unchained) , Nate Parker ( Arbitrage ) , and Doona Bae ( Cloud Atlas) .

Ezra Miller is a solid choice. Emily Blunt deserves to be Oscar-nominated with her former co-star, Anne Hathaway ( Les Miserables), because they both gave the best performances by a supporting actress this year. They are both different, but they both moved tremendously and they owned the screen.

I fully share your consideration because I was lucky enough to see Anna Karenina recently in Italy at Torino Film Festival – Matthew Macfadyen as Stiva deserve a nomination for his stunning interpretation. Two hours uninterrupted in the original language with subtitles in which people were completely kidnapped by the magic and where the fantastic Matthew tore giggling fun. I hope so much he be rewarded is really a brillant actor!!

So many come to the top of my head including Scoot McNairy in Argo and Killing Them Softly; Michael Fassbender in Prometheus but I had been rooting for Sam Rockwell in Seven Psychopaths. (Actually I thought an Oscar nom would be a stretch but I thought a SAG nod was within his grasp. Oh well.)

I can't get behind the Emily Blunt love for Looper. Hell, I can't even get behind Looper for anything. That movie had promise and looked like it would possibly live on that in its first 20 minutes, but then fell on its face and became a crashing bore. To me, at least. I like the mentions for The Perks of Being a Wallflower, though. That's probably the biggest and most pleasant surprise I've had at the movies this year. Loved it.

CIK, Gere was great in Arbitrage but Nate Parker stole the handful of scenes he was in. Everyone I know that saw the movie thinks so too. But his role was too small. Great suggestion

Am I the only person who remembers Michael Fassbenders' turn as David in Prometheus? The only un-divisive widely held opinion over that incredibly debated film was his incredible performance. Already swindled out of a nomination for Shame, he gets forgotten again. Its probably only a matter of time til he does get a nomination for something, but its hard to argue that he deserves one here.
