I guess I'll have to wait until the release, just thought I'd mention that theory.

I'm one of the few who will defend every prior Breillat film (even the much maligned "Anatomy of Hell"), so I maintain a certain optimism toward each of her new projects. In any case, I'm pretty damn curious about that ending now!

You might be on to something there Sam, but the every other choice – from the direction, editing (which had people laughing) and acting – is awful. I'm not even going to get into the ending.

I happen to be writing something about "Bluebeard" and so I checked this out as a resource. Gotta say, don't you think it's possible that the costuming choice was a deliberate one, considering this is a film about a young girl imagining herself in a fantasy dress-up role? And doesn't that in fact make the framing device more than just superflous?

Haven't seen this yet, but from other pieces I've read, I think this might have more going for it than you give it credit for. (Not unlike Rohmer's "The Romance of Atrea & Celedon," which is similarly themed and stylized.) Just a thought.

I didn't think Bluebeard was that bad, and a lot of it was rather funny, but it's not her best work either. I'd probably give it a C+.

Can't tell you how disappointed I am to hear "Bluebeard" sucks ass. I was really looking forward to it.
