I think Blomkamp is a much more logical choice than PTA, but yes, he's a bit more unproven right now. Maybe he'll have another movie under his belt by the time Avengers hits.

Oh, I missed NB in the intro the first time around! (I went straight to the lists, d'oh!) Still, I think he's viable, particularly if Marvel is looking for a cheaper option. (Do we know if this Disney thing will make them a little looser with the pursestrings, btw?)

Seems to me that Bigelow and Bird would be great choices, but I find it crazy that my bet isn't on this list: Neill Blomkamp, who's got fanboy approval, already made one cheap-but-good-looking movie with monsters and mechasuits, and would probably respond well to a script of the same substance as, say, the first Iron Man movie.

Brad Bird would be a good choice but I think he'd rather want to shoot his "1906"...
I keep thinking that the right guy for this is Genndy Tartakovsky 'cause he's used to mix various elements of pop culture and mythological creatures in his cartoons. Problem is that he never directed one feature film, so he probably won't be chosen.
Well, maybe he'd still work on the pre-production of the action scenes, like he did on Iron Man 2.

I always said that if Watchmen were to be done correctly PTA should have directed.

That said, the less obvious more indy choices of Favreau and Branagh work well the individual character driven stories, but they need to get a name director for something like the Avengers.

This is going to be a huge workload for whoever takes this up and they need a big action director who's already proven, and up to such a huge challenge.

This is a HUGE stretch, but I think Spielberg would do well with this, but his price tag is most likely too big considering they'll be paying a shitload on actor's salaries ontop of a huge production budget.
