The script was definitely not the typical Coen Brothers quirk-fest (much as I love their movies). It\'s a very straightforward story. And the script adheres very closely to Portis\' novel. I wouldn\'t say the Coen\'s are trying to reach a mass audience, but this has more of a chance to do that than most of their films.

\"To bring you quickly up to speed, the film is not a remake of the John Wayne film per se, but uses Neal Purvis’ novel as the source material.\"

Neal Purvis? The James Bond screenwriter? Charles Portis.

There is no such thing as unknown Coen territory. They have done all kinds of things and they have covered many territories. That is why they are great directors. Like Sayer they are able to cover a lot of different territories, giving each one their own individual great attention to detail: music, photography, character. There could be nothing better than a meeting of Buddy Portis, Coen Brothers, and Jeff Bridges.

If anybody deserves an Oscar for this film it\'s cinematographer Roger Deakins. Even if it\'s a so-so film, I\'m sure it will still look great!
