Have Sherlock and Watson fallen through a wormhole? With Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman spotted earlier this year shooting the next batch of "Sherlock" episodes, fans puzzled over set photos that showed them in Victorian garb. But it seems the mystery-solving pair are indeed falling back in time, for what will be a standalone Christmas episode, with the BBC releasing the first image today.
“The special is its own thing,” co-creator Steven Moffat told EW this spring. “We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be a separate entity on its own. It’s kind of in its own little bubble.”
Well, that’s certainly a fascinating tease. Any theories "Sherlock" fans about the duo jumping back 100 years in time? Let us know below.
