Maybe the script and shooting were conventional enough for the suits - and Schrader the editor had his own plan for a better movie? Maybe they should release both versions, let the audience decide.

"Dying of the Light" was at the top of my must-see list. Why wouldn\'t it be? Distinctive filmmaker with his own slant on life and movies, not a blockbuster maker, sometimes (like all such) firing on all cylinders, sometimes sputtering, but always unfailingly interesting.

Now, if his latest film has been recut by people who have never written or directed a movie, let alone done both together, into one more piece of homogenized "product" for texting popcorn munchers, it\'s on my must-avoid list, at least until a director-endorsed version appears, if one ever does.

We\'ve been through this wretched situation so often before (cf. for instance the recut-by-producers version of Bertrand Tavernier\'s "In The Electric Mist", which didn\'t receive even a token theatrical release in the US), and the results never fail to be dismal.

Why don\'t those damn producers write and direct their own projects instead of hiring a real artist?

Here\'s hope Schrader\'s cuts will be on the Blu-ray.

I was really looking forward to this project. Knowing that Schrader has a lot more to offer than "The Cannyons", with the right material I know that he will deliver, even though he hasn\'t done anything impressive since Auto Focus back in 2002. Cage was on form coming from his brilliant performance in JOE... But look now what\'s happening, the same ridiculous situation that we r used to hear in this business. I\'m glad that N.Winding Refn is standing on Paul\'s and Nic\'s side. At least I hope that Schrader\'s cut will be released in DVD.
