As the prestigious Cannes Film Festival comes to a close today, perhaps it’s time to shift our ever-so-serious, “yeah, but is it Palme-worthy?” gaze elsewhere. And maybe we’ll point it at something less exalted, perhaps not to be esteemed at all, who knows?
The upcoming relationship comedy “A Many Splintered Thing” was shot all the way back in 2012, and it still hasn’t been screened or released to the public. The movie stars Chris Evans and Michelle Monaghan, plus Anthony Mackie, Patrick Warburton, Topher Grace and Giovanni Ribisi, and it’s about how unrequited love motivates a guy to write about his experience (I’m pretty sure that’s not even Grand Prix-worthy, but I could be wrong).
Directed by first-time filmmaker Justin Reardon, the movie even has appearances by Aubrey Plaza, Martin Starr, Ashley Tisdale, Ioan Gruffudd, Luke Wilson, and Philip Baker Hall. So where is it? Who knows—you’d have thought this thing would have turned up at Sundance or TIFF by now. Maybe TIFF 2014? (Or Cannes 2015??). Anyhow, no word on this movie yet, but some first-look photos have surfaced to whet the appetite of any movie-blog completists who can’t sleep yet because they haven’t figured out the status of its production (complete… I think).
