All I can tell you is I saw Casablanca at a Fathom event and I thought I died and went to heaven. Films were made to be seen on a big screen with an audience – there is nothing like it.

Yes, definitely worth seeing it in theater. The whole atmosphere adds something you can not experience watching on tv.��

I saw Casablanca projected this way, and it was fantastic! Hopefully, they will consider showing a Marx Brother double bill one day.

They are pros. The Fathom events I have seen are theatrical quality.

Yes, these events are a fantastic use of the Digital Cinema Package technology. Not feasible to send around film canisters as in the past, the new digital distribution of movies allows great films to be seen in the theater. A great example was see the New restoration of My Fair Lady at the SF Castro on an 80ft screen- it was loverly. This ain\’t gonna look like a DVD 😉

They\’re DCP\’s not a DVD. I\’ve seen two, B+W and, if I recall correctly, 4K transfers. Looked superb, about as good as a current film with a 4K transfer. They know these are being projected on large cinema screens–my guess is they only schedule these screenings with films that have good quality film source material that will look good on a large screen.

Has anyone reading this actually been to a Fathom event? I\’m tempted but I don\’t want to see the equivalent of a DVD projected on a big screen. How\’s the quality?
