And his work does stand 25 years later, because Do the Right Thing was released in 1989, not 1999.

Also, Spike should take his own advice and get working on his next film. Maybe he\’ll actually make a worthwhile film again, it\’s been too long.

Uh, Jaime. I typically only discuss movies on this site, considering that it\’s a film-centric site. But, to be fair, it\’s not Obama\’s fault that the nation is being "torn apart." If that\’s actually the case, it\’s likely more due to angry white people who get bent out of shape anytime there’s a quality of life improvement for persons of color (such as a black man being elected as president) or whenever people of color protest unfair treatment (such as being targeted by law enforcement). As for ‘Selma,’ a large number of people who write about movies agree Ava DuVernay should have been nominated (ditto for David Oyelowo) and her exclusion likely has just as much to do with her being a woman as it does with her race.
And I’m not going to bother spending much time debunking what you wrote about the economy. In case you haven’t noticed, since Obama took office, unemployment has dropped from 10 percent to 5.6 percent, which is the lowest it has been in some 12 to 15 years. The GDP has gone from -8.9 percent to 5 percent growth. We’ve gone from losing 800,000 jobs per month to creating between 250,000 to 310,000 jobs per month. And the Dow has gone from 6,500 to 18,000 and the dollar hits highs every day. You’re certainly welcome to your own opinions, but not your own set of facts.

Selma snub? People are just tired of this never ending racial issue being presented by the elite liberal progressive socialist propaganda machine. Give it a rest Lame Stream Media and Hollywood. Americans want to live together without all your BS race baiting…

I swear, this whole racist witch hunt is getting out of hand. I thought when we elected Obama, we were promised \’hope and change\’? His presidency has only torn us apart. We all hate each other now. It sounds cliche, but can\’t we just all get along?

While the media focuses on this non-sense, the US economy is burning. Many of our citizens have had their jobs taken away along with their health insurance. The middle class is shrinking and its not getting any better.

Obama has destroyed our economy. Everyone is under-employed and can’t afford to live. We must now purchase health insurance we cannot afford and do not want or need (mine is $450/month… contrast this to my $25/month auto insurance from Insurance Panda… or my $12/month renters insurance from Eagle… both private-enterprise!)

When we elected President Obama, weren’t we promised “hope and change”?

Also – For those complaining that these awards are “too white”, It\’s not about demographics, it\’s about excellence. Totally subjective.

Well, since nobody else is addressing the elephant in the room I\’ll step up. It is NEVER okay to use the "R" word. As a black man, I thought using this kind of language would be common knowledge to Spike. Secondly, I used to have mad respect for this man, but his anger bit is getting very old. A few years ago there was a New York Times article that was waxing over a slate of film by blacks on the scene or coming down the pike –The Butler, Fruitvale Station, Selma. The reporter wrote about the exact same thing that Lee was pointing to: the 10 year cycle of black films upsurge. It goes in cycles.

Yeah, lets discuss the academy accepting African-american/African/Caribbean (etc) film (which they 100% should be, the whole system is archaic and needs an overhaul, and not just for African-american films but for all foreign films) while calling their choices "RETARDED"? Its a good thing 12 Years won Best PIcture, so all the White producers coudl get golf awards, but not Best Director. That said, they still gave Best Director to a minority ( a Spanish Guy), but wait the only minorities that matter are Blacks. I forgot.
