Also Bob sang it like that in 1981 and throughout the 80’s – more recently he went back to the original lyrics. Bob toyed with the lyrics of several Blood songs – notably “Tangled…” which was almost completely rewritten in ’84. Also after further “Simple Twist” research I’ve found that Tweedy’s version is an amalgam of many Bob live versions – every line was done by Bob at some point except the “A clown at someplace softly played” – of all the live versions I’ve perused over the last few hours it’s always “saxophone”.
