While the summer movie season has mostly left us disappointed at the multiplex, with studios serving movies with lots of flash and little else, there has been a silver lining for those avoiding the sequels, superhero movies and CGI tentpoles. There’s been a healthy amount of smarter fare for discerning moviegoers, and coming at the end of the month is another picture with the potential to shake the blockbuster blues. It’s “Closed Circuit,” the latest from “Boy A” director John Crowley, boasting a script from “Eastern Promises” scribe Steven Knight and two compelling leads in Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall. And we’ve got a special preview for you today.
The film tells the story of two ex-lovers, and lawyers, brought together on the defense team in a high profile terrorism case following the bombing of a London market. The problem? The prosecution plans to use classified evidence as part of their case, so government-approved defense lawyer Claudia Simmons-Howe (Hall) is brought on with the clearance to assess those materials. But it’s all just the first step in what soon appears to be conspiracy on a bigger scale, one that will bring Claudia and Martin Rose (Bana) close again, with potential consequences. And as you’ll see in this exclusive clip, secrets can be a dangerous thing.
Co-starring Julia Stiles, Ciarán Hinds, Riz Ahmed, Anne-Marie Duff, Kenneth Cranham, Denis Moschitto and Jim Broadbent, “Closed Circuit” opens on August 28th. Check out the clip below along with a bonus round featuring another clip, a featurette and a handful of new pics.
