The two Johns: Although "The Stewardesses" may have become one of the highest grossing 3D films of all times and introduced StereoVision, a 3D process that basicly solved the problems that theatrical presentations of 3D films had presented in the past, Hollywood didn\'t actually embrace the 3D films from 1969-1981. The majority of the 3D films that came out during that period were low budget, and were either sex comedies, martial arts films, or porn films. Roughly half of the films released during that period were in anaglyph format. There were re-releases of the classic 3D films "Creature From the Black Lagoon", "It Came From Outer Space", and "House of Wax". Out of the three films, only "House of Wax" received a proper StereoVision conversion.

Because Hollywood actually got behind the 3D films of the 80\'s, that\'s why people considered that the "80\'s 3D resurgence".

John R: The article is more accurate than you think. Please check the statements in your comment. Didn\'t Stewardresses come out in 1969? I don\'t think that would have started the 1980s resurgence. According to IMDB, Comin at ya! was released on July 24th 1981. Parasite was released about 8 months later on March 12, 1982. I believe Comin at Ya! did kick off the 1980s 3-D film resurgence.

Some basic errors in this article should be addressed. "Comin\' at Ya!" did NOT kick of the 1980\'s resurgence. This actually began in the 1970\'s with "The Stewardesses", and the first one in the 1980\'s was "Parasite", followed by many others before "Comin\' at Ya!". As far as the rather ridiculous comment: "even if the effects warrant three-dimensions or not", effects have nothing to do with warranting three dimensions. Normal human vision is stereoscopic, thereby allowing us to see three dimensions as a normal part of our visual system. All movies should be in stereoscopic 3D, just as today most motion pictures are in color with sound. 2D movies, with everything from a few centimeters to infinity squashed down to a single flat plane are an extreme distortion.
