While they should do their job and watch the entire film, the entire film is not worth watching. The first half is gripping the second half is a messy, trashy soap opera. This movie had 7-8 plot lines and none of them paid off. They would have only been more disappointed had they kept watching.

Elle is possibly the best film of the year, certainly the most daring. This is a huge, huge mistake for them. Hopefully the actors are wiser and nominate Huppert, otherwise it’ll be a farce.

Saying that audiences and critics disagreeing “may be problematic for The Academy if it wants to keep its reputation as a true arbiter of global cinema”… my god I can’t remember hearing a ~film critic~ say something more pretentious and I spent the last 6 months working at a major film festival

PS: It’s Only the End of the World making the shortlist but Mommy not = ???????????????? I like Dolan but it’s his weakest work by far (though I do think critics were hyperbolic in their hate for it)
