I completely agree with the first suggestion of his: nix the FYC ads that are studio or contender-sponsored. (Although I supported Melissa Leo\’s efforts because I felt she was worthy, more so for Frozen River, it can get rather tacky.) Sending screeners to Academy members is different. I think that is permissible since it gives all films a fair shot, in case voters missed them while shooting across seas or something. But no more ads or celebrity-hosted functions that pimp out specific films. (That being said, with all due respect to Norton\’s suggestion, I\’m really glad celebs did it on behalf of Beasts of No Nation, because it\’s at least helping Idris Elba quite a bit!)
