I read the script floating around online, and I think it’s pretty clear that the film relies heavily on the visuals. I was a little disappointed with the script at first—it seemed to be overly episodic and skimp on story—but Knowles’ review is helpful in that it points out that the film’s strengths are its “mind-blowing” visuals and good acting. I’m fairly optimistic… okay, I can’t wait.

Your “mildly negative buzz” just don’t come from people who actually have seen the finished movie, so I don’t know what you’re talking about.
There are also rumors that Cannes selection committee actually very much loved it, so…
