I\’m actually really impressed with this lineup. Sequels to the company\’s two best films—Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon—were no-brainers, but all of the original content, with the possible exception of Turbo, sounds fantastic. They seem to be getting really good at mixing talent not normally associated with animation (Charlie Kaufman, Guillermo Del Toro, Roger Deakins) in with their stable of artists. Rise of the Guardians and, especially, Me and My Shadow have a lot of potential.

Say what you want about them, but DreamWorks hasn\’t made a truly bad movie since Bee Movie. Took a while, but they seem to finally be living up to the promise they showed way back with the first Shrek.

While it looks like a rough year ahead, all their original content sounds very promising. Pixar making sequel after sequel and canning anything that pushes the boundaries a little, while Dreamworks is (seemingly) making genuinely interesting films…what\’s going on here?

I\’m worried that How To Train Your Dragon 2 lost Chris Sanders- the real visionary behind that film (he also did Lilo & Stich). BUT it is cool to see \”The Croods\” is being directed by him so there\’s still hope.

They haven\’t made a truly bad movie, but I wouldn\’t say Shrek 4 is all that either.

I guess I\’m here to reiterate the point by J.J. I\’ve been a DreamWorks naysayer for a long time (Shark Tale is still one of the worst movies I\’ve ever seen) but I\’m genuinely excited for a surprising amount of their upcoming lineup. I feel like Katzenberg finally realized that the reason Pixar always ended up first is because of quality, so he\’s trying to out-quality them by hiring Sanders, Kaufman, Bambauch, Del Toro, etc. And I\’m not going to complain, we all win if that promise is fulfilled.
