Either way, 2011's The Muppets did was not a failure at all. It was a legitimate box office success. It almost doubled it's budget just in domestic, and foreign brought it up to something like $137M or some such.

but this does not mean the movies or tv exposure is dead. they still made money on the first film. 50 million in sales on dvd and more in merchandising as Forbes stated in their review. and the same… to a smaller degree with be for MMW…

there's talk of a broadway production…

there will be something on tv.

and i think a third movie will happen… though building some cred for kids is a must before that… maybe muppets most wanted will help with that… kids will love it

I really don't understand why they couldn't get a new version of The Muppet Show off the ground though. Built in audience for a beloved existing property, low production costs, endless possibilities for cross-promotion with celebrity guest stars? Seems ideal to me.

If they are using the weird/misguided/essentially just bad Lady Gaga quasi-Christmas special as the reasoning why they won't do that well…That was just a wholly bizarre and misguided project.
