Here's my hope for both Alien and Predator....
They'll both be shelved for a few years to allow people to forget bad sequels.

With Avatar and Cameron now in house, hopefully Disney can get their hands on the Terminator franchise, since Cameron owns the Terminator rights now. If Disney can get Terminator along with Alien and Predator they could have an amazing combined universe, especially if they can add in Blade Runner. Blade Runner 2049 lost money, so Alcon Ent would likely give Disney a shot.

As a lifelong fan, with this merger underway I expect there will never be another THEATRICAL ALIEN movie.
With all the new Fox properties Disney might double their annual releases - bringing it up to a "massive" 16 movies a year - but they're still probably only going to focus on their theatrical releases being sure fire hits that will deliver on every dollar spent. I love the ALIEN series (yes, even Ridley Scott's two DAVID movies which I think are fantastic) but it's a hard R rated series that due to the genre it plays in - sci-fi/horror hybrid - has a set peak level. I feel even if a movie was made that pleased everyone the profits of PROMETHEUS is the highest this series could go if they keep it R. It also hurts that these movies are expensive horror movies that need every prop and set created from scratch.

Most likely I figure Disney will turn ALIEN into some sort of Streaming Series. Something they could make for a small screen on a smaller budget and minimize theatrical distribution risks.

Maybe - MAYBE - Ridley Scott & Scott Free Productions having their hands in so many productions across Hollywood could coerce Disney into allowing a smaller budget (sub $60 million) final entry in Scott's DAVID Trilogy but I doubt it...

Probably worth mentioning Alita. Doesn't look like my cup of tea, but I can see it becoming a property worth having. X Files needs to sit on the bench for a while, but I could see a reboot down the line as a splashy film series or cornerstone show for Hulu. Alien Nation and Big Trouble in Little China with Disney's sure hand (both had remakes pegged within the last few years, both seemingly died on the vine). So, yeah...the rich get richer.
