No, Tomorrowland stinking had nothing to do with Clooney, it was the script. The girls were fine, although Brit was too shrill most of the time. The girl android was my favorite character, so no, it had nothing to do with anti-feminism. The script was a big mess, that\’s what killed it. If Tron Legacy was a beautiful film, then why did so many people dislike it? Hedlund can\’t attract an audience, even in a big scifi movie with a huge studio and a lot of promotion behind it. He is partially to blame, his fanbase isn\’t big enough, even in a studio film like Tron.

to make Tron Legacy in the first place was a huge gamble on a franchise that was dormant for 30 years. To pin this on Hedlund is unfair and inaccurate. Tron Legacy was a beautiful film in an amazing world created by kosoninski.the cost of such a movie is prohibitive but the world I suspect is a poorer place for not having.

suggestion for disney execs: make budget conscious films instead of bloated summer blockbusters. scale back the Tron grandiosity and deliver a story that both visually stuns and appeals to the masses. oh, and keep lindelof\’s hands off Tron.

Garrett Hedlund\’s inability to connect with audiences and establish himself as a bankable leading man is a big factor in this, and whoever cast him in Tron to begin with should take some of the blame. Just because he\’s tall and moderately good looking doesn\’t mean he has what it takes to carry a film. He\’s had many chances and has never been able to deliver. Instead of dominating On The Road he was lackluster. He just makes no lasting impression. A more charismatic leading man could have made this sequel happen. I agree with Faulkner about keeping Lindelof\’s hands off Tron and anything else, really. Tomorrowland stank.

Totally agree with Lorelai. Hedland hasn\’t been able to create a niche for himself and create a recognizable persona that audiences can hang around his neck. Maybe he needs a better agent?

I agree with all this EXECEPT, I disagree that Tomorrowland stank. We saw it twice in the same weekend & LOVED it! So many other that were in the theatre with us appeared to have the same reaction! I personally think it \’stinks\’ to some people because it\’s ultimately NOT George Clooney\’s character that saves the day. IT\’S THE GIRLS that fix it! Same demographic that I\’m hearing that didn\’t like Mad Max: Fury Road for those VERY reasons.

Lack of Diversity hits home again I love it, Not one person I know of color went to see or wanted to Tomorrowland when they all wake up and realize there are other cultures to impact and include maybe they will be profitable

I personally loved this movie for the concept of transcending into a computer, the amazing visual effects and light suits (I want one so bad!!), and the absolutely fantastic original album by Daft Punk. But I can see how people did not like the writing. This seems to be the top complaint from the reviews I\’ve read. I think if they get better writers, and use the already designed and created sets, suits, and CGI models they could create a great sequel for a lot less and lots of profit!

Skywater, it does not take $170,000,000 to make a visually stunning film. countless indies like Upstream Color, Tree of Life, Only God Forgives, etc., are visually stunning at a third of Tron Legacy\’s cost. and also your ad hominem attack is baseless. stick to the points being discussed as insulting people out does nothing to further your arguments.

and then there was Mr Clooney. Clooney has, despite his 20 year long press campaign, not carried a movie as the protagonist to a hit. Ever. The Oceans movies were ensembles with box office stars Pitt, Damon and others. Gravity had the BO star Bullock. But not one giant Clooney hit. And there was the constant press that the movie was preachy about Environmentalism – something just in BO that has been poisonous always.

Ah, Up in the Air, Descendants, Out of Sight, Perfect Storm and others have all starred Clooney and made a profit. Clooney was also the protagonist of all the Ocean movies, even though they had an ensemble cast. He\’s not the reason Tomorrowland got bad reviews, he didn\’t write the script.

2 previous \’Tron\’ flicks really were terrible (eye candy aside). Are geeks that simple that a neon motorcycle and hot girl in leather and fiber optic is ALL that it takes for them to get their collective wish list wet dream on? NO reason to make "Legacy" (esp. factoring in what if cost) and still no reason to make a threequel…Good riddence and RIP Tron…don\’t go zombie on us and come back from the dead…
