I think you're right–finance is the issue here. This is an epic-sized movie–the climax is MGM burning down its backlot to stand in for Atlanta in "Gone With The Wind"–and generally speaking noir and Hollywood-themed movies don't have big audiences.

Public Enemies is the only film that i've been disappointed in with Mann and I kinda agree with the comment of whether he'd be the right choice for the material now. 90's Mann, certainly Having said that, it would be a dream come true if this got made. It's a beautiful often staggering script.

Very difficult to predict the future of this project. But I think that Marty and Chris, Chris Nolan will shot a better movie than Michael Mann. Hope for Chris, he will be able to shot his own Chinatown but this is just a dream.

It'd be an amazing film, no doubt about it. It just seems like one of those unproduced, potential masterpieces that's never going to happen. Hopefully I'm wrong about it never happening.
