I haven't read about it in your pages, but here in LA an organization called Cinespia runs screenings in the Hollywood Forever cemetery, right in the heart of the city. Outdoors in the summer, picnic baskets welcome, DJ sets before hand on a huge lawn. People spread out blankets and low chairs... very communal, cinema lovers, etc. They screen popular favorites from all eras (I've seen 'Repo Man', 'Pee-Wee's Big Adventure', 'Twentieth Century'). That seems like a good compromise here: a special event, focused on the film, unobtrusive to the story, all for $10USD. As much as I LOVE Blade Runner, I don't want distractions when I'm watching.

Cinemas that have been specially themed in advance to fit the mood the filmmakers want to build with the film are a good idea, but the theme park recreations and reenactments in these videos are incredibly tacky. A fun idea for screenings of cult favourites, but it's a bad idea to use this model with new releases.

"Often actors also recreate elements of the plot, somtimes during the screening -- the conclusion of "Blade Runner" saw Deckard and Roy Batty lookalikes dangling from a rooftop, and the end of "Bugsy Malone" saw a splurge gun and custard pie fight break out in the audience"
Um...that sounds horrible.

''And across its month-long run, it sold over $1.1 million worth of tickets to 25,000 people (each paying a hefty £35, over $50)''

Some people have more money than sense! Seems like a rip-off to me.

I'd never heard of these. If they brought it states side I'd defineatly go to a Blade Runner screening if I knew it was screening beforehand. Not a fan of not knowing what film it would be. I'd hate to get suckered into watching an Adam Sandler film or whatever crap most studios are putting out these days. Still, I could see the film experience enhance on a handfull of lackluster films. Say Amazing Spideman, a frustrating mess, would most defineatly benefit from this.
