A BioShock film is a pipe dream. Budget will always be the deciding factor there and no studio is ever going to be willing to front what it would cost to make that game transition onto film the way it needs to.

Films based on game properties are probably still going to be looking for that one big breakthrough film - the one that situates them into "real" cinema vs. something that a bunch of minging nerds go to see in hopes that it'll be good while knowing in their hearts it won't be at all. Dead Island likely won't be the one to do that (the idea they're trying to sell it on with the "emotion" aspect of the game is laughable at best since the only real emotion from it came in the form of a trailer that had insanely little to do with the game itself) and it would be lucky not to have the likes of Uwe Boll come in to direct it.

Great article as always guys. But remember that superheroes aren't all comics have to offer. Video games is a medium, whereas superheroes are a sub genre in the "medium" of comic books.

What about Peter Jackson's Halo? Haha. I hate to disagree but video games are much more nichey than comic books. And when I say comic books, I really mean the superheroes that were created by the comic book. Warcraft might be able to be pulled off but that is just because it's the biggest game in the world. And obviously that's the one that got money thrown at it first. Comic book movies are seen by probably 90% of the people who don't read comics because they feature superheroes. A video game movie would more than likely only be seen by those who play that specific game if that.
