I'd love to see many older films back in the cinema again. But as they were meant to be seen. I find it pretty pathetic that these great films can only find their way back into cinemas in 3D. I'm really not sure if this is the stupidity of studios, thinking we need something more than the proper theatrical experience to tempt us away from our DVDs and BRs, or if its the stupidity of a certain section of the viewing public, who need to have a film updated in some whizz-bang way to make it worth seeing. I don't even want to see new films in this ridiculous process, which seems to deprive film of its natural brightness and depth.

Show classic films as they were meant to be seen, I'm there. Butcher them with colourisation or 3D; include me out.

BTW I find it interesting that filmakers such as Spielberg were happy (rightfully) to speak out against colourisation, but seem content to go along with the equal travesty of 3D when they personally are going to make some bucks out of it.

You barely even mention Jurassic Park in the article, but I think that's going to make huge bank too, if the conversion's done right. For people around my age (early to mid 20's) it's one of the big cultural touchstones. And it's a great blockbuster that holds up well and hasn't dated that much. Ugh, if I wasn't so adamant about never seeing anything in 3-D, I'd be amped for it.
