I think Mickey Rourke was exactly what Darren Aronofsky needed and Mickey Rourke owes the director a lot, too. \”The Wrestler\” was a great film with one of the greatest acting performances I\’ve ever seen. I enjoyed \”Black Swan\” and its a lot of dark fun, but in no way goes it pack the emotional punch of \”The Wrestler\”.

Mickey Rourke was fantastic in \”The Wrestler\” and I could care less how difficult the filming was – that movie came off much more as a co-creation of Rourke\’s and Aranofsky\’s. \”The Fountain\” was ambitious but a giant bomb for Aranofsky – the acting was way over controlled by the direction. Rourke was fortunate that Aranofsky went to bat for him but Aranofsky is also very fortunate that Rourke gave him a lot of resistence and came up with a performance, as a result, that was so soulful and real – it saved both of their careers. Portman did a fine job in \”Black Swan\” but its just not on the same level as Rourke\’s.

I can\’t believe how Fincher keeps bringing up all of the problems I had with The Social Network. Must be the most honest dude in Hollywood.
