It took Marvel years of licensing their properties, so DC has a bit of an advantage (but not creative carte blanche) in that Warner can just churn out the material as they please.

But being someone who still reads comics, DC's going to have a much harder time in general being that the bulk of their characters are still infinitely goofier and haven't gotten the "gritty action hero"-style updates that Marvel has given to the greater majority of its characters (making them more accessible to today's audience).

Superman is ubiquitous, yet they found a way to screw his latest movie up terribly well. I'd expect plenty of movies that are as good as the 2nd-tier films that Marvel has had come out (Ghost Rider, Fantastic Four e.g.)
