I don't recall any sort of scandal or big deal involving Affleck… Did I miss something? When was he ever hounded mercilessly and having all kinds of negative publicity other than maybe the occasional shellacking of his acting abilities after a film like Gigli or Daredevil or something? I've always felt like the reason he can't play the Bat is because of that whole "frat boy" thing and the fact that he HASN'T ever had a major tragedy or hardship like losing his parents. Is there some specific incidence they are referring to, or is it just meaning that he's experienced the paparazzi life in a fishbowl just because he's a celebrity? (I still wouldn't even go so far as to call him a "star"- though he does have some name recognition, he's not Tom Cruise or Jack Nicholson or even Bruce Willis)

His character in Gone Girl is so different from his previously played roles. Hopefully, this movie brings out a new dimension of him. He has never been a good actor (but has the potential to be a Great director with his directorial efforts) so when he was cast to play Nick Dune was very skeptical if he could pull it off.
