Well, if they want a "different" Superman, Aronofsky would be a great choice. I doubt WB would let him shoot the film in his beloved 16mm, ha ha, but I'm sure he would put his stamp on the story in other cool ways. Weisz could definitely play Lois IF Superman is cast as her age. If not, maybe she plays his mother in a flashback to Krypton? Maybe Hamm plays Supes dad?

When the initial list went up, I was thinking why isn't Aronofsky on this?

I liked pi, the fountain and the wrestler. I am no fan of requiem for a dream but to me he is a safer bet than Duncan Jones. I think they are both interesting directors but Jones has made one movie with one actor and maybe this is too soon for him, maybe source code will change my mind.

I really don't want a tony scott Superman, he will probably push for Denzel as Superman and Travolta as Luthor.

Didnt wolfgang petersen want to do Superman vs Batman?

The script that Aronofsy was going to use for Batman: Year One was pretty off-the-wall. Things like Alfred as a jive-talking black man, Bruce living homeless on the streets, Batman running into the Joker and playing out The Killing Joke on their first meeting, etc. But that was probably as much Frank Miller intentionally pissing on the fans, as he so often likes to do.

He did not give a shit about Batman Year One like he didn't give a shit about Watchmen or Robocop. Aronofsky does this to stay in people's Rolodexes.

I recall years ago Aronofsky talking about doing an adaptation of Frank Miller's RONIN–a DC graphic novel. Weird that he's been attached to several comic properties if he's not a comic guy.

I don't think its too farfetched for him to do Superman if he almost did Batman Year One. Sure, that fell apart because of creative differences and he doesn't like to compromise, but you never know…
