Really? Do you like just making information up? It was selected as one of the 49 song explicitly eligible for the Oscars, so that blows that theory out of the water, huh?

i hear you on the 60% rating on the reader, but i think the argument that what's popular should be nominated is a scary one, because what's popular if you go by the box-office is crap.

It's just a scary road of thinking.

I can't get with the people who say the academy is out of touch with what people want - because the Academy is supposed to nominated TDK because it's the highest grossing film of the year?

If nominations went by that Oscars would be much, much worse.

The Oscars are sadly predictable. The Dark Knight changes the game in terms of what a comic book film should be, essentially escalating into a crime drama, and it gets shut out in almost all the major categories. Way to go, Academy, you continue to alienate yourself from true movie lovers.

I don't get why you think DK not getting a best picture or director nomination is a snub. I suppose it was better than most superhero movies, but it was too long, most of the character development was weak, and it was predictable. I think it was over hyped because of Ledger, and entertaining, but definitely not Oscar worthy.

And one more thing worth noting. The Reader has a paltry %60 rating on Rottentomaotes, which makes it the lowest rated Best Pic Nominee of at least the last ten years.

Wendy and Lucy was really incredible. Shame it's not the kind of movie the Academy would ever recognize. Synecdoche, New York, too.
