64% at Rotten Tomatoes. Hardly a master piece. There is some good stuff in there, but if that film was rounded out to critics not in LA or NY, i bet the RT score would drop heavily.

I only saw 4 reviews of the film. The first, The Playlist's was mixed-to-negative. The other three, while acknowledging the film's flaws, all described it as a masterpiece and one of their favorite films of the year.

I think screeners would be a good thing–it's not going to get major awards, but it *might* get a couple critics society awards, and it definitely stands a better chance of getting on various critics end-of-the-year lists considering many didn't see it, and that in turn feeds into more people who want to go out and find it which in turn feeds into more money for the studio and more interest and demand for them to release a more-complete version. I, for one, would be eager to see it.

I get where you're coming from, but it's a process. If Fox Searchlight puts even a modest effort into getting the film some awards attention, then they could capitalize on its newfound recognition to sell the director's cut to a buying audience. Right now, nobody's going to buy it, because few have heard of it. Since only the film that played in theaters, as it played in theaters, is eligible for many awards (including, especially, the Academy Awards, though that admittedly seems like a long shot), that's the one we should be getting behind for now. Besides, of course, it already being a really amazing film as it stands.

Margaret was such a promising project with a stellar cast. It is unfortunate that after years of delays and only getting a limited release, the final version did not live up to its promise and the critics hated it and no one saw it.
