Got a Tip?

Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’ Expands Orbit To Include Wes Bentley

null

Okay, we get it. If you want to make an original sci-fi movie these days—or an original anything—you need to cast big name stars to convince studios to part with their cash. So, Christopher Nolan has done just that, lining up Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Anne Hathaway, Casey Affleck, Bill Irwin, Ellen Burstyn and John Lithgow to star in “Interstellar.” All people we love too, so yeah sounds awesome. Then he started filling out the supporting cast with some…interesting…choices including “Twilight” actress Mackenzie Foy, “Homeland” actor Timothee Chalamet and “That ’70s Show” guy Topher Grace. It’s all looking pretty monochromatic here, and that’s not changing.

Wes Bentley is the latest name to join the cast and…maybe the twist of “Interstellar” is that the future has no people of color? Even though “Pacific Rim” might not have worked overall, one thing we did point out in our breakdown of the movie, is that we at least appreciated the multi-ethnic cast (as one-dimensional as they were). But really? The future of time travel and wormholes is bereft of some color? Unless this is going to be some kind of “Cloud Atlas” shit…. And we’d buy the argument that maybe it’s the right actor for the right part, but something tells us that if Wes Bentley (or Topher Grace for that matter) wasn’t in this movie, it would still work. And by the way, Bentley is the last piece of casting…

Anyway, argue and debate below. “Insterstellar” arrives on November 7, 2014. [THR]
