I actually found the movie to be kind of a letdown. I thought the structure was unnecessarily confusing, much of the accents hard to understand, especially with the non-stop score. I have never wanted a Hans Zimmer score to just stop as much as I did watching this movie. It just screams INTENSITY when I think the movie would have played just as intense with no score at all. Especially because Nolan created such a great soundscape. It's almost like he didn't just trust the material to be intense, he had to smother it with score. The other thing that bothered me is that there were no characters here to connect with. Everyone just felt like a piece moving around a board. I never felt like I was following anyone's story, just seeing events happen with people involved. I admire the technical achievement of the movie to a degree but it left me with no feeling other than "wow that must have been a really terrible experience for those people". That's not nothing, but I was certainly hoping for more.

Why has no one commented that Nolan STILL treats people/characters in his writing as espousers of ideas and themes rather than human beings. The minimal dialogue (and it's telling that this is the case that its his best film because the people don't talk much) has some lines that are almost always on-the-nose ("What is it?" "HOPE."). Everything the review says here is true, but it's time someone picked him up on this.
