100%, comedy is an incredible equalizer of talent. Drama and spectacle can be manufactured much easier than comedy. Not to say comedy CAN\’T be manufactured lame crap that passes with audiences (turn on CBS any night around 8-9pm), but drama can be supplied with camera movement, lighting, music. Comedy is so much more dependent on performance.

He\’s right. If a moment lasts a beat to long in a drama, it\’s hardly noticeable. If a moment lasts a beat to long in a comedy, the movie is ruined. The old adage is true: Dying is easy, comedy is hard.

He\’s got a point. It\’s easier for an audience to feel sorry for someone with cancer than it is to make an audience laugh at a comedy dealing with cancer.
