In line with America’s extra-presidential mood lately, Chris Columbus has acquired the rights to Thurston Clarke’s book, “The Last Campaign: Robert F. Kennedy and 82 Days That Inspired America.”
Columbus plans to direct the film, which will presumably follow Kennedy’s presidential campaign right up to his assassination, and with his stances on the Vietnam war, racism and poverty his campaign stances are sure to resonate with modern day audiences (and the ever-growing Kennedy obsession never hurts).
The project seems like an odd choice for a director known for his child-centered comedy/dramas (“Adventures in Babysitting” “Home Alone” and the first two “Harry Potter” movies), but hey, maybe he is ready to move on.
